Top 5 Michaelisms for Mineral Makeup Application

June 30, 2011 By patkaspian

1.  Home Depot and A French Touch Salon have more in common than you may have thought.  Both offer their clients the best way to prep, prime, and finish.  Like painting a home, similar steps are required when applying mineral makeup to your facial structure.

Michael reminds us, “The beauty of mineral makeup is that it responds to its surface, which means you get best results by prepping and priming the skin.  Since minerals enhance a hydrated and prepped surface it’s important to prep the skin with moisturizer, then prime the skin with Line Tamer SPF20 Primer.  Now that your face is prepped and primed, you can apply your Colorescience mineral foundation for a flawless finish.”

2. Most women put their makeup on backwards.  Although most women do the opposite , you should always apply your mineral eye shadow before your foundation.  This order allows you to easily remove excess eye shadow that fell beneath your eyes during the application process.  In addition, dark eye shadows should be worn in the evening, not in the daytime.

Michael says, “Minerals reflect light.  With this in mind, don’t wear dark smoky shadows during the day because the darker the color you have on your lids the smaller your eyes will look.”

3. You can get authentically new brows without a tattoo or a brow pencil.  Applying natural-looking eyebrows is easy with Colorescience Pro Minerals.  You can use their Brow Gel to create a textured surface on your thin brow hairs to which a brow shadow will adhere, giving you fabulous eyebrows that look oh-so-real and aren’t painted on your skin.

Michael suggests, “By working from the outer corner toward the inner corner when doing color on the brow, you’ll get better results and more beautiful brows.”

4. The best makeup product to bring with you on a deserted island, after your SPF, is eyeliner.  Most women would say the most important makeup product they can’t live without is mascara, but eyeliner has the capability to create more prominent lashes, while also making your eyes appear larger and more defined.

Michael recommends, “Colorescience Pro eyeliner is easy to work with because the length of the eyeliner brush is short, allowing you to get a precise line near the edge of the lid.”

5. You can’t make a mistake with Colorescience Pro Minerals.  Colorescience Pro Minerals products are easy to change throughout the day when you want to go from a natural and fresh look for the day to having dramatic smoky eyes for the evening.

Michael raves, “Mineral makeup never has to stay the way it looks when you first put it on.  It is always a work in progress, so you’re never stuck with anything unless you choose to stop moving it.”

Three Reasons Your Skin will Love Colorescience Pro Minerals

June 22, 2011 By patkaspian

Most women want a makeup that covers their fine lines and wrinkles, but still appears natural and highlights their beautiful facial features.  Colorescience Pro Minerals fulfills these desires through the use of premium ingredients.

#1. It will offer flawless coverage that feels so natural.  Colorescience Pro Minerals makeup comes directly from the minerals of earth.  It is free of the “Seven Deadly Skins,” including: talc, perfumes, mineral oil, harsh preservatives, drying alcohols, emulsifiers and dyes.  Watch this video on how to test if your mineral makeup is truly made up of 100% minerals.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfLy6Q24jNk]

#2. It will improve your skin’s health.  Colorescience Pro Minerals makeup is better for all skin types – especially sensitive skin, skin that is prone to acne, and skin that typically has allergic reactions to cosmetics – because it doesn’t contain oils, waxes, artificial colors, chemicals or preservatives that cause the skin to become irritated and dry.  May we suggest a few unique Colorescience products to help calm and protect your skin?  The Skin Calming Primer will help hydrate, soothe and diminish the appearance of redness and irritation.  The Mineral Golden Powder is a useful product to neutralize skin redness.  The golden color of this product helps to hide imperfections and correct skin color.  Lastly, Setting Mist Be Still is a highly moisturizing mist formulated to soothe and replenish all skin types.

#3. It will protect your skin from aging.  In addition to the benefits of having unclogged pores, a lightweight makeup, and a natural look, Colorescience protects your skin from damage and aging caused by ultra-violet sun rays.  Wherever you may go during the day, whether it be an afternoon shopping downtown or simply a walk to your car from the grocery store, be sure to shield your skin from the damaging effects of the sun and environment with the Colorescience Pro Sunforgettable Collection.

4 Sunscreen Excuses You Should Never Use

May 16, 2011 By patkaspian

There are a hundred reasons why we should wear sunscreen, yet the few negatives often prevent us from embracing the positive and getting our SPF on the right way! The majority of us think that the little SPF we apply in the morning (within our lotion or makeup) is enough to keep us protected, but it’s important to know that’s not the case! Beyond the serious risk of melanoma, dermatologists remind us that 95% of aging is directly due to sun damage. For that reason, we’re bringing to light the 4 sunscreen excuses that tend to keep us from wearing SPF the right way, and how Colorescience’s Sunforgettable products eliminate those excuses.

Bad Excuse #1: Most are Sticky and Stinky
Sunscreen has a bad reputation for being sticky and stinky. Find a sunscreen with a lightweight formula and test it on your skin before purchasing. This will give you a good idea of the smell and feel of the sunscreen on your skin.

Colorescience Sunforgettable Solution: Odorless, lightweight, and “barely-there” feel

Bad Excuse #2: Reapplying Messes Up Makeup
We know that all sun blocks require reapplication, which can be determined by their SPF number. SPF is an acronym for Sun Protection Factor. The number represents the length of time you can stay out in the sun without burning, multiplied by the SPF number. However, this number can be deceiving. The general rule of thumb is to reapply ever 3-4 hours regardless of SPF level due to water, rubbing of clothes, and sweat. Doctor’s also recommend an SPF 30, anything under is too little.

Because creamy sunblocks are “organic,” not in the sense that they’re natural, but the fact that they interact with your own skin chemistry, they lose their effectiveness 3 to 4 hours after application.

Colorescience Sunforgettable Solution: Pure mineral powder sunscreens offer longer-lasting, water-resistant protection that won’t sweat off. You therefore get a literal “screen” effect on top of the skin while offering consistent SPF30 or SPF50 protection.

Bad Excuse #3: Sunscreens Contain Chemicals
Pure minerals are essentially the only sun protection recommended for young children, whose delicate skins will absorb chemicals from cream-based sunblocks that can be systemic (entering the bloodstream). Also, some adults are allergic to commonly used chemical blocks in over-the-counter sunscreen cream.

Colorescience Sunforgettable Solution: Pure mineral powders don’t release any irritating ingredients, because they’re the most natural block available in nature (zinc, and titanium dioxide).

Bad Excuse #4: Allergies and Acne
Most sunscreens are greasy and clog pores, especially from sweating in the sun! And it is widely recognized that acne-prone skins can’t handle the double-dose of chemicals and pore-clogging creams.

Colorescience Sunforgettable Solution: Since this SPF is a mineral powder it is extremely lightweight, yet powerful for a barely-there feel that provides the safest, non-irritating, instant UVA and UVB sun protection. This also means that you can “forget” about grease! Sunforgettable won’t cause breakouts or irritations.

Your At-Home Facial

January 13, 2011 By patkaspian

Are you caring for your skin outside of the salon? Chances are there’s room for improvement. Your at-home efforts are equally important as your monthly appointments. We’ve put together this mini facial program for you to get the most out of your skincare.

Do this routine once a week for beautiful, glowing skin throughout the New Year:
Tip: It is best to do this after a shower, as the steam has opened your pores.

Step One: Glycolic Cleanser
You’ve already learned how important glycolic is to your skincare routine. For a deep cleanse, make sure your product has this active ingredient. Cleanse your face and rinse thoroughly before moving on to Step Two.
Try: Jan Marini Bioglycolic Cleanser

Step Two: Scrub
Cleanser doesn’t completely clear your skin of all the build-up and debris from dead skin, oil, and dirt. A scrub breaks up what clogs your pores and causes breakouts. Remember that your face isn’t the only part that deserves a good scrub! Clogged pores can happen anywhere dead skin builds up. Also, keep exfoliation to only once a week to avoid drying out your skin. It’s important that your scrub gently exfoliates your skin’s surface. Some scrubs can contain harsh beads that tear your skin.
Try: Sothys Desquacrem

Step Three: Mask
A mask is a deep cleanser to get the last bits of any debris in your skin, then tightens your pores for radiant skin. A mask will make your skin softer, lighter and cleaner instantaneously. Allow mask to dry, and rinse off thoroughly.
Try: Sothys’ Refining Peel-Off Mask

Step Four: Moisturize
Follow your mini-facial with your usual moisturizers and creams. Voila: radiant, beautiful skin with long lasting results.

Now that you have the tools for your at-home facial, make the commitment! You will be amazed with the results.

Make a resolution for your skin: Don’t Pick!

January 6, 2011 By patkaspian

For your New Year’s resolutions, we hope you saved some time for your skin. Skincare is equally important in bettering yourself, as say, a gym membership. The good news is that proper skincare takes a lot less work than attending spin class! Here are two resolutions to start now:

Don’t Pick
Instead, use an exfoliating scrub twice a week! Clogged pores are caused from dead skin cells mixing with oil and dirt, which then attract bacteria causing inflammation and breakouts. But instead of picking at your breakouts, use a scrub to slough away bacteria and dead skin, which will clear your skin fast.
Products we love: Sothys Desquacrem (deep-pore scrub, $31), or Spa Cells facial sponge, a honeycomb sponge used with your cleanser to gently scrub away dead skin. This is a great inexpensive tool ($12) to clear pores. You can now buy Spa Cells at the salon!

Wash your face at night
We have plenty of clients who through changing this one habit, cleared their skin instantly. Many women don’t realize the effects of not washing your skin at night. Make it your resolution to wash at night! You will be amazed with the results.

Need more skincare resolutions? Call the salon for a skin analysis!
