The ABC’s of Skin Cancer

March 25, 2026 By patkaspian

In order to prevent skin cancer and melanoma, resulting from over-exposure,  it is important to understand what the causes are for these conditions:

Most often, skin cancer is caused by too much exposure to the sun and its UV rays.  Overexposure is classified as too much time exposed to intense sunlight either from being outdoors or artificial sunlight from tanning beds.  This is especially true if you experienced sunburns or blisters as a child and especially as an adult.

It’s as easy as A, B, C, D & E.

If you have a mole that takes on any of the characteristics below, it’s a good idea to get checked by a dermatologist ASAP.

A: Asymmetry – if the mole takes on an irregular shape or is bumpy;
B: Border – if the edges of the mole are jagged;
C: Color – if there is more than one color in the mole;
D: Diameter – if the mole is bigger than a pencil head eraser;
E: Evolution – if the mole changes over time.

This is not meant to create fear, but rather to create AWARENESS.

Skin cancer and melanoma are all about PREVENTION!

  • Shade: Especially during midday hours
  • Clothing:  Tightly woven fabric offers the best protection for protecting exposed skin
  • Hats: For the most protection, wear a hat with a brim all the way around that shades your face, ears, and the back of your neck
  • Sunglasses:  Most sunglasses block both UVA and UVB rays
  • SUNSCREEN:  Wear at least SPF 15 and make sure it is “broad spectrum” to block both UVA and UVB rays and remember to….

Reapply!  Reapply!  Reapply!  Did you know that two minutes of exposure without sun protection creates an enzyme in the skin that destroys collagen?  Most sunscreens are cream based, which means they are organic and cause a chemical reaction that inactivates the sun protective activity.  This is why it is critical to reapply sunscreen every two to three hours!

To avoid chemicals all together, using a physical block such as a pure mineral sunscreen* is recommended,  but must also be reapplied.

*Colorescience is the ONLY all natural oil-free, chemical-free and dye-free mineral sunscreen

Oprah’s endorsement: Colorescience sunblock!

March 25, 2026 By patkaspian

We’ve all had it drilled into our heads  – reapply, reapply, reapply. Now, we’re hearing it form Oprah herself, who recently listed “reapplying sunscreen” as one of the habits of women with gorgeous skin. Her suggestion for easy application? Colorescience, of course! Sunforgettable SPF 30 brushes are perfect for being on-the-go because they can easily be applied over makeup to ensure that your skin is protected throughout the day. Stop by the salon to get your sunscreen fix – sunny weather is just around the corner!

Sothys’ Energizing Line

March 25, 2026 By patkaspian

Bonjour mes amis!

I hope you’re not feeling as tired as I have lately, but I do know that we’ve all been there. When this happens, it’s pretty visible; we get a little more snappy, haggard, or absent-minded than usual.

But these aren’t the only external effects of tiredness—our skin shows it too. Tired skin is dull and exhibits aging more visibly.

Luckily, there are always aids for our exhaustion. Caffeine can help with our behavioral tiredness. As for our skin, there’s Sothys’ Energizing line.

Sothys’ Energizing line aids the skin’s energy reserve through harnessing several key ingredients: Siberian ginseng, rice phytosterols, and sophora flower extract, among others. In effect, these ingredients work to protect the mitochondria of the skin cells. These mitochondria are responsible for producing the ATP (cellular energy).

In addition to aiding in ATP production, use of these products promotes micro-circulation and cell-oxygenation in the cells of the skin. This allows the skin to flush out any toxicity, and drains any puffiness/inflammation in the face (common in tired skin). It also encourages collagen production in the skin and helps to reconstruct the dermis, protecting the skin and retaining its elasticity.

If all of that flew right over your head, here’s the long and short: These products restore energy to your skin, allowing it to better circulate and release toxins, as well as kick-starting the processes that retain skin’s youthfulness. The result? Skin that is youthful, radiant, and overall healthier.

The line offers three main products: Energizing Day Cream, Energizing Comfort Day Cream, and Energizing Night Cream, all of which are available at A French Touch. If you have any questions about the products, our estheticians are always happy to help.

So do what you have to do, because we all have busy lives and probably won’t always get the recommended amount of sleep. As tired as you may get, your skin doesn’t have to reveal it (and with a cup of coffee, no one will be the wiser)
